After about 65,000km while driving on the highway my engine completely broke down by throwing a piston rod right through the block. Is this model affected?

    Thankfully this didn’t result in a accident! Everything was okay they said. I had a mechanic look at it and he said I threw a rod because of a lubrication issue known by KIA. I was driving in September of 2018 and it stalled while sitting at a red light.I didn’t even realize it till light turned green and giving it gas it wouldn’t go.Thought I accidentally had it in neutral but looking down it was still in drive.With lots of cars behind me honking I tried to restart the car.I was in panic mode as this was a major intersection I was stalled at.I finally got it started and went to my destination. I started to diagnose my issue and found that the #3 cylinder connecting rod bearing had spun on it’s self and stopped my engine. I have had a 2012 Kia Optima that I purchased in 2016 or 17, and am on my 3rd engine with it. I saw there was a recall for exactly the same thing but it did not appear to be from Tucson’s with my engine. Now I’m being told I need a new engine for almost 9-10,000 or a used one for 4800.00. I am now stuck with a vehicle that I can’t afford to fix and have 5years of payments. If this is a known issue why is there no recall and what the heck are they still selling them. It was consuming excessive oil since 114,000km but all the dealer did was top up oil every 2 weeks until it failed. Only 50,000kms. Quote to replace the engine, it wasn’t fixable, $8000. Thank God I was able to maneuver the vehicle off the highway without anyone getting seriously injured. Recall information provided herein only applies to vehicles retailed in Canada.
